In short

A private trip is the same crossing as our open trip, run for your group alone. You pick the dates, you are the only people in the vehicle, and the rate depends on how many of you travel.

  • Your own vehicle, driver and English-speaking tour leader.
  • Any dates you choose, subject to hotel availability.
  • Land at Tambolaka (TMC) at 12.00 WITA, fly out of Waingapu (WGP) at 11.00 WITA — the route crosses the island and never doubles back.
  • A drone and a mirrorless camera travel with the group; the files are copied to your drive on day three.

From six passengers the group travels in two vehicles, which is why the rate steps up at five and nine before falling again as the extra seats fill. Flights and personal spending are not included.

The four-day route. The longer trips build on this same spine.

    Day 1 · Land at Tambolaka

    Pick-up at 12.00 WITA. Ratenggaro Traditional Village, then sunset at Pero Beach. Night in South West Sumba.

  2. 02

    Day 2 · West coast, then east

    Weekuri Lagoon and Mandorak Beach, Prai Ijing Traditional Village inland, sunset at Warinding Hill, then on to Waingapu.

  3. 03

    Day 3 · Savanna and waterfalls

    Tanarara Savanna, then Waimarang or Tanggedu Waterfall, and sunset at Walakiri Beach.

  4. 04

    Day 4 · Last hills, then Waingapu

    Sunrise at Tanau Hill, a souvenir stop and Persaudaraan Hill, then Waingapu airport. Closes at 11.00 WITA.

Arrive a day early and fly out a day late if you can. Same-day connections leave no margin.

  • Fees and water

    All entrance fees, village donations and mineral water.

  • Airport transfers

    Pick-up at Tambolaka and drop-off at Waingapu.

Not included: flights into Tambolaka (TMC) and out of Waingapu (WGP), and personal spending.
